Music reaches parts of us that nothing else does. People who struggle to recall this morning can sing every word of a song from sixty years ago, and a familiar tune can turn a flat afternoon into a celebration. GrandyGo’s music programme, Mediterranean Rhythms, puts that power to work every week.
Dance that meets you where you are
You do not need to be on your feet to dance here. Many of our most popular sessions are seated, with movement led from a chair to the rhythms of zeybek, sirtaki, tarantella and flamenco. Those who want to stand and move gently are welcome to, and partner dances are kept slow and easy. The aim is never performance — it is the lift that comes from moving to music with other people.
- Seated and gentle dance to Mediterranean rhythms
- Folk-music recitals, choirs and karaoke of beloved old songs
- Simple percussion, and instrument tasters on oud, bağlama or mandolin
- Vinyl-record afternoons and nostalgic music nights
Good for the body, better for the mind
Moving to music improves balance, coordination and circulation, and does it so enjoyably that people forget they are exercising. Singing supports breathing and lung strength. And music is one of the most reliable keys to memory and emotion we have — which is why nostalgic song nights so often end with stories, laughter and the occasional happy tear.
Rhythm sessions sit alongside our gentle-movement and wellbeing activities, so residents can build a week that keeps both body and spirits up.
A soundtrack to the whole year
Music threads through everything at GrandyGo — the long lunches, the festivals, the evenings with friends — as you’ll see across the yearly programme. Mornings by the sea, afternoons with friends, and often a song to carry the evening home.
