Accessible & wheelchair-friendly

Accessible supported living — the right home for the way you move

Mobility isn't one thing. Some people walk a little more slowly; some can't manage stairs; some get around by wheelchair. So "is it accessible?" has one honest answer at GrandyGo: we match you to the facility that fits how you move — and arrange your apartment around your needs.

Mobility is a spectrum

From a little difficulty to full wheelchair use

Difficulty with stairs or getting out of a chair, needing a frame, and relying on a wheelchair are different points on the same scale — and stairs, in particular, are one of the biggest fall hazards in later life. A home that's right for one person can be unsafe for another. That's why we don't offer one building and hope it fits; we offer a choice, and help you find the one that's genuinely right.

You can walk, with a little difficulty

Steady on your feet but slower than you were, and a short flight of 5–6 steps is still manageable with a handrail.

We match you to

A comfortable apartment in one of our facilities where a few steps are no obstacle — with handrails, good lighting and help on hand.

Walking is hard — stairs are out

You get around on your feet or with a frame, but stairs have become too much, or too risky. Falls on stairs are one of the biggest hazards in later life.

We match you to

A ground-floor, step-free apartment with level or ramped entry, so there is not a single stair between your front door and the sea-view terrace.

You use a wheelchair

You rely on a wheelchair for mobility and need a home where every room, every doorway and every threshold simply works — no edges, no steps, no awkward turns.

We match you to

A facility built entirely on one level, fully step-free and barrier-free: level flooring throughout, wider doorways, room to turn, and a wet-room bathroom.

Not sure which is you? That's exactly what our free call is for — we'll work it out together, honestly.

Arranged around you

The accessibility we build in

Step-free & ramped entry

Level or gently ramped thresholds so there is no step to trip on or lift a wheelchair over.

Level floors throughout

Smooth, even, non-slip flooring from room to room — no lips, rugs or sudden changes of level.

Wet-room bathrooms

A fully waterproofed, step-in-free shower with a seat and grab rails, designed for safe, dignified washing.

Wider doorways & turning space

Doorways and rooms sized so a wheelchair or frame passes through and turns comfortably.

Handrails where they help

Grab rails and handrails by beds, bathrooms, corridors and any change of level.

Help always on hand

A nurse on site around the clock and a call system in every apartment — safety never depends on being able to move fast.

How the match works

We get it right before you arrive

On your free call we talk through how you move — walking, balance, stairs, a frame or a wheelchair — and how that might change over time. Then we recommend the facility and apartment that keep you safe and independent. If your mobility changes after you move in, we review your plan and, where needed, move you to a more suitable home. Your home should fit you — not the other way round.

Your questions, answered

Accessibility & mobility — FAQs

Is GrandyGo wheelchair accessible?
We match you to the right home. For wheelchair users we offer a facility built entirely on one level — fully step-free and barrier-free, with level floors, wider doorways, room to turn and a wet-room bathroom. Tell us about your mobility and we will recommend the facility and apartment that fit.
What if I can walk but struggle with stairs?
That is very common. If you can manage a few steps with a handrail, a comfortable apartment with minimal steps may suit you. If stairs are out altogether, we place you in a ground-floor, step-free apartment with level or ramped entry — no stairs between your door and the terrace.
How do you decide which facility is right for me?
On your free call we talk through how you move day to day — walking, balance, stairs, whether you use a frame or wheelchair, and how that might change. Based on that honest picture we recommend the facility and room that keep you safe, comfortable and as independent as possible.
Can my needs change after I move in?
Yes, and we plan for it. Mobility can change with time, and if it does we review your care plan and, where needed, move you to a more suitable apartment or facility so your home always matches your needs.
Are the bathrooms safe for someone with poor mobility?
The accessible homes have wet-room bathrooms — step-free, with a shower seat and grab rails — which are far safer than climbing into a bath or over a shower tray, and allow washing with dignity and help if needed.
